First the process, then the numbers, then the tooling – so that what comes out is a decision you can justify.

Understand the process before automating it

Before we talk about tools, we look at the workflow: who does what, where the waiting happens, where errors and rework come from, and what that costs over a year. Only then can you sensibly answer where AI actually changes something – and where a simpler solution gets there faster and cheaper.

Benefit and business case

What does the project return, what does it cost over its lifetime, and when does it pay for itself? You get a calculation you can follow: one-off effort, running costs, expected relief – and above all the assumptions behind the result, stated openly and testable one by one.

Selection, sequencing and setup

Ideas are rarely the bottleneck; order of play usually is. We sort the candidates by impact and effort, settle the build-or-buy question, and set the chosen project up properly: goal, scope, people involved, milestones, and the criteria by which you will later recognise whether it worked.

Reviewing work already under way

A sober outside look at something already running: where it stands, what it has cost so far, whether the original case still holds – and if not, what course correction costs compared with stopping. The result is a recommendation, not an apportionment of blame.

Dependencies and risks

Vendor lock-in, switching costs, the operational effort that starts when the project ends: the items that rarely appear in a quote and later decide the matter. That includes the honest question of which tasks are better not handed over at all.

How we work together

TycLab is a part-time consulting practice. That shapes the scope, and I would rather say so up front than afterwards:

  • Analysis, assessment, and decision groundwork – not the implementation and not the day-to-day running of your systems.
  • A limited time budget of up to 20 hours per month, planned together.
  • No on-call duty, no response times outside agreed appointments, no 24/7 support.
  • Implementation is done by your team or a provider of your choice; I can stay on in an advisory role if you wish.

If you need more than that, I will tell you plainly and, where I can, point you to a better-suited address.

Understand first, then quantify, then decide.
